Gyanendra Pratap Singh

Senior IPS officer Gyanendra Pratap Singh, a 1991 batch officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, has been named the new Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The appointment, recommended by the Ministry of Home Affairs, was formalized through an official order issued by Director Sakshi Mittal on January 18.

Singh, who is currently serving as the Director General of Police (DGP) in Assam, will take over from Vitul Kumar, the Special DG of CRPF, who has been officiating since December 30 after the retirement of Anish Dayal Singh on December 31, 2024.

Known for his proactive approach, Singh’s illustrious career spans various critical assignments, including his tenure with the Special Protection Group (SPG) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA), where he served as Inspector General. His return to Assam in late 2019 as Additional DGP (Law and Order) coincided with the Citizenship Amendment Act protests, marking a pivotal moment in his career.

Singh has also contributed to initiatives such as the Rhino Protection Task Force and led the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption in Assam. With a significant presence on social media, Singh is widely appreciated for his direct engagement with the public.
