
Trailukya Borgohain has officially assumed charge as Director (Operations) at Oil India Limited (OIL), the country’s oldest oil and gas Exploration and Production (E&P) company and a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) under the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoPNG). The appointment, effective Tuesday, marks a significant step for OIL as the organization continues to strengthen its operational excellence and drive innovation in the energy sector.
Borgohain brings over three decades of extensive experience in the oil and gas industry, spanning diverse aspects of E&P operations. He holds a Master of Science in Applied Geology from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee and an MBA in Energy Leadership from Texas A&M University, Texarkana, USA. His academic credentials, combined with a robust career, position him as a well-rounded leader equipped to address the evolving challenges of the energy sector.
A native of Bhadoi Panchali in Assam’s Dibrugarh district, Borgohain began his professional journey at Oil India Limited in 1995 as an Executive Trainee in the Geological Department at the company’s Field Headquarters in Duliajan. Over the years, he has played a crucial role in several landmark oil and gas discoveries, significantly contributing to exploration projects across Assam, Rajasthan, and Gabon. His strategic leadership was particularly instrumental during his tenure as General Manager and Head of OIL’s Gabon Exploration Project from 2017 to 2021. Under his guidance, the project achieved remarkable progress, bolstering OIL’s international footprint.
Borgohain’s expertise is further reflected in his impressive body of work, including the presentation of numerous technical papers at esteemed national and international forums. He has also authored more than 36 exploration evaluation reports, showcasing his analytical skills and deep understanding of geological systems. His reputation as a thought leader in the oil and gas domain has been cemented by these contributions, positioning him as a valuable asset to both the organization and the industry at large.
Prior to his current role, Borgohain served as Chief General Manager (Geology & Reservoir) at OIL, where he spearheaded critical initiatives aimed at accelerating the development of oil and gas fields, particularly in the Upper Assam Basin. His efforts were integral in enhancing production efficiency and advancing exploration strategies to align with the organization’s growth objectives.
In an official statement, Oil India Limited highlighted Borgohain’s exceptional leadership qualities and technical acumen. “Trailukya Borgohain’s extensive expertise and leadership will play a vital role in driving operational excellence and achieving the organization’s strategic goals in the E&P sector.” The statement further emphasized his role in strengthening OIL’s competitive position as a leading player in the global energy market.
