Union Minister Manohar Lal

Union Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal, has officially launched Convergence Energy Services Limited’s (CESL) new initiative, “EV as a Service,” at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium. This forward-thinking program, aimed at advancing electric vehicle (EV) adoption within government offices, represents a strategic effort to promote sustainable mobility.

Key aspects of the program include deploying 5,000 electric cars across various Central and State Government ministries, departments, and institutions over the next two years. By offering a flexible model that caters to the diverse operational needs of government offices, CESL’s initiative is set to accelerate the transition to e-mobility while supporting India’s long-term goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2070. The program aligns with the government’s environmental sustainability objectives, helping reduce carbon emissions and decrease reliance on fossil fuels, enhancing national energy security.

CESL has already made significant strides in the EV sector, facilitating the deployment of nearly 2,000 electric cars and supporting the rollout of approximately 17,000 electric buses across India. At the event, Manohar Lal praised CESL for its pioneering role in clean energy solutions, stating, “The ‘EV as a Service’ program demonstrates CESL’s commitment to driving sustainable innovation. This initiative marks a crucial step in India’s journey toward greener transportation and underscores the need for cleaner mobility options that benefit both current and future generations.”

Vishal Kapoor, MD & CEO of CESL, highlighted that the program is essential to India’s ongoing electric mobility transition. “By facilitating EV adoption in government fleets, CESL is contributing to significant emissions reductions and strengthening the nation’s energy security. This initiative brings together stakeholders, from manufacturers to policymakers, creating a robust ecosystem ready for sustainable growth,” he said. The launch of “EV as a Service” follows the PM E-DRIVE Scheme, reflecting CESL’s broader vision for a low-carbon, energy-efficient economy.
