
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the G20 Summit session focused on Sustainable Development and Energy Transition, emphasizing significant commitments made at the New Delhi G20 Summit. He highlighted the group’s resolution to triple renewable energy capacity and double energy efficiency rates by 2030, while also applauding Brazil’s commitment to advance these priorities.
During his address, the Prime Minister detailed India’s strides in sustainable development. Over the past decade, India has provided housing to 40 million families, clean drinking water to 120 million households in the last five years, clean cooking fuel to 100 million families, and sanitation facilities to 115 million families. He proudly noted that India is the first G20 nation to meet its Paris Agreement targets and has set an ambitious goal of generating 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030, with 200 GW already realized.
Modi also discussed India’s global environmental initiatives, such as the International Solar Alliance, the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, Mission LiFE, One Sun One World One Grid, and the Global Biofuel Alliance, all aimed at fostering a sustainable future. He urged a focus on the needs of the Global South, especially Small Island Developing States, and called for support for the Global Development Compact introduced by India at the third Voice of the Global South Summit.
