NTPC Ltd, India’s largest integrated power utility, celebrated its 50th Raising Day, highlighting five decades of unparalleled growth and commitment to India’s energy sector. In a ceremony held at the Engineering Office Complex (EOC), Noida, CMD Gurdeep Singh hoisted the NTPC flag alongside Board Directors and senior officials, with employees from across the nation participating via video conferencing.
As part of the celebrations, NTPC’s CMD virtually launched hydrogen-fuel buses set to operate in Leh, underscoring NTPC’s ongoing dedication to sustainable and green technology advancements. A breakthrough announcement was also made regarding NTPC’s pioneering synthesis of CO₂ captured from flue gas with hydrogen from a PEM electrolyzer, converting it into methanol at the Vindhyachal plant—making it the world’s first of its kind in carbon management and sustainable fuel production.
Reflecting NTPC’s commitment to a sustainable future, CMD Singh shared updates on the company’s work in Gen-4 ethanol, green urea, and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), as well as the development of India’s first indigenous catalyst for methanol synthesis. He emphasized NTPC’s strides in hydrogen technology, carbon capture, and other innovative efforts toward environmental sustainability.
A special 50-year logo, symbolizing NTPC‘s enduring contribution to India’s progress, was unveiled, featuring an infinity loop that represents continuous growth and excellence. The celebration also honored outstanding achievements of NTPC employees’ children and saw the launch of new IT applications and a comic book on NTPC’s Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM)—a CSR initiative that has empowered over 10,000 girls from rural areas.
Acknowledging NTPC’s remarkable journey, CMD Singh paid tribute to the company’s founding visionaries, including founding Chairman Dr. DV Kapoor, whose foresight laid the foundation for NTPC’s enduring legacy. “NTPC represents five decades of powering growth,” he noted, adding that the company’s resilience and ongoing expansion into renewable energy, including nuclear, underscores its vision for a sustainable future.
