Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka announced that the state government is preparing to unveil a comprehensive energy policy, emphasizing sustainable energy production. This policy aims to generate 20,000 MW of green energy as part of the state’s commitment to environmental conservation. During a recent visit to the Yadadri Thermal Power Plant, accompanied by Ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy and Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, the Deputy CM highlighted the government’s plans for completing ongoing projects and integrating substantial power resources into the state grid.
The Yadadri Thermal Power Plant, currently under development, is slated for completion by May 2025. Once finalized, the plant will contribute 4,000 MW of power to the state’s grid, addressing the growing energy demands. The ministers also marked a milestone by flagging off a coal transport train from Ramagundam to the Yadadri site, underscoring the state’s proactive approach to energy logistics.
Vikramarka emphasized that although Telangana was established a decade ago, a structured energy policy was absent under the previous administration. The Congress-led government aims to bridge this gap, engaging energy experts and intellectuals in the policy formulation process, which will be presented to the State Assembly for comprehensive feedback and endorsement.
As part of this policy, the government plans to incentivize multinational companies to incorporate green energy into their operations. Reflecting global shifts, the state will promote large-scale green power production to support industrial needs and foster environmental stewardship.

The Deputy CM also provided updates on the Yadadri Thermal Power Station (YTPS), noting that Stage I of the plant is now operational and connected to the grid. With three additional phases targeted for completion by March 2025, the plant is expected to meet significant power requirements, anticipating demand increases to 22,288 MW by 2028-29 and further to 31,809 MW by 2034-35.
