Artificial Intelligence (AI) is an indispensable tool for development but must be deployed with responsibility and optimal use, asserted Union Minister Jitendra Singh during a recent conference on AI. He outlined the government’s strides in launching AI-driven programs and Quantum missions to advance India’s technological frontiers.
Singh emphasized AI’s transformative role across sectors such as governance, business, healthcare, education, and space exploration. Highlighting AI as the backbone of India’s future development, he stated that it has the potential to address critical challenges like climate change, public service delivery, and national security, while significantly boosting economic growth.
In discussing the AI Data Bank initiative, Singh underscored its strategic importance in strengthening national security through real-time satellite, drone, and IoT data analytics. India’s national AI strategy is built on a foundation of innovation, ethical governance, and global collaboration. The minister outlined efforts to foster partnerships among academia, private enterprises, and startups to accelerate AI applications in vital areas, including healthcare, agriculture, smart cities, and space exploration.

Reiterating India’s commitment to transparency and fairness in AI systems, Singh noted that robust governance frameworks are being developed to tackle challenges like algorithmic bias and data privacy. He also stressed the need for India to engage actively in international forums such as the United Nations and G20 to establish a rules-based AI framework.
The minister highlighted the government’s dedication to empowering citizens through AI, ensuring equitable access to its benefits. He emphasised that AI must serve as a bridge to close divides, empower people, and complement human efforts rather than replace them.
Singh envisioned India as a global AI leader by 2047, advocating for collaborative efforts from all stakeholders to integrate AI into the nation’s journey toward sustainable and inclusive development.
