The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has entered into a two-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with WinZO, India’s foremost platform for social gaming and interactive entertainment, in a move designed to bolster India’s position in the global gaming sector. Through this partnership, over 2,000 startups, innovators, and students in India will receive valuable mentorship, industry expertise, and opportunities to engage with global markets.
This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat, as it seeks to boost India’s share of the $300 billion global gaming market. The MoU will specifically focus on addressing the talent gap within the sector by equipping professionals with skills in coding, animation, game design, and development.
According to a report by the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF), India’s interactive entertainment sector is projected to grow to $60 billion by 2034, generating more than 2 million jobs. The DPIIT-WinZO collaboration aims to harness this potential by supporting startups through hackathons, workshops, accelerator programs, and pitch events.

A key aspect of the partnership is the establishment of a Center of Excellence (CoE) by WinZO, in collaboration with DPIIT. The CoE will focus on training a skilled workforce, developing monetization strategies for Indian gaming assets, creating high-quality “Made in India” intellectual property, and attracting foreign direct investment (FDI). This centre will also drive the manufacturing of interactive technology products in India, addressing critical challenges in the industry.

Additionally, the MoU will expand WinZO’s flagship Tech Triumph Program (Bharat Edition), which identifies and mentors India’s top game developers. This program has already showcased Indian gaming talent at global events like the Game Developers Conference (GDC) and Gamescom LATAM, and will now be further supported by DPIIT’s initiatives.
Sanjiv Singh, Joint Secretary at DPIIT, emphasized that the collaboration will help India realize its full potential as a producer and exporter of interactive entertainment. By promoting innovation and entrepreneurship, the partnership aims to position India as a global leader in the industry, contributing to the vision of a self-reliant India.
