The Government of Jharkhand has appointed senior IAS officer Alka Tiwari as its new Chief Secretary, with the Election Commission of India (ECI) approval. Tiwari, an IAS officer of the 1988 batch from Jharkhand, takes over the role from L Khiangte, who retired on October 31, 2024.
Tiwari returns to the state after serving as the Secretary of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST). With her extensive background in governance, she is expected to play a key role in managing Jharkhand’s administrative functions as the state gears up for upcoming elections. Her tenure, which could extend until her superannuation on September 30, 2025, is seen as crucial in overseeing the state’s operations during this important period.
