Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), a Maharatna CPSU under the Ministry of Power, has successfully acquired “Bhadla-III & Bikaner-III Transmission Limited”. This Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) was acquired from PFC Consulting Limited (PFCCL), the Bid Process Coordinator, through a Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process, where POWERGRID emerged as the successful bidder against various private sector competitors.
The project involves the implementation of a 765kV D/C transmission line interconnecting the Bhadla-III and Bikaner-III substations, along with the associated bay extension work in Rajasthan. As an Inter State Transmission System (ISTS) project, it is set to be commissioned within 24 months.
This high-capacity interconnection will provide greater flexibility for power transfer from the renewable energy (RE) clusters in Bhadla and Bikaner, enhancing the resiliency of the transmission corridor. The project will also cater to future RE generation requirements from the Bhadla-III Power Station.
POWERGRID, through its various SPVs acquired via tariff bidding, is implementing several transmission system projects on a build, own, operate, and transfer (BOOT) basis. These projects will boost India’s transmission infrastructure to facilitate green energy evacuation into the national grid, supporting the government’s goal of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030.
