Amrit Lal Meena

The Bihar Government has officially appointed Amrit Lal Meena, former Coal Secretary, as the new Chief Secretary of Bihar. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has sanctioned Meena’s repatriation to his parent cadre following the retirement of Brijesh Mehrotra, the previous Chief Secretary.

Meena, an Indian Administrative Officer from the 1989 batch of the Bihar cadre, has a distinguished career. He previously served as Special Secretary (Logistics) in the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry. His experience includes roles as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Food Processing Industries and the Ministry of Rural Development. He also held positions as Principal Secretary/Additional Chief Secretary in Bihar’s Road Construction Department and served as District Magistrate across five districts for over nine years.

Holding a B.Tech in Electrical Engineering and a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Policy and Management from the Indian Institute of Management, Bengaluru, Meena’s tenure as Coal Secretary was marked by efforts to boost coal production and decrease reliance on imports.

As Chief Secretary, he is expected to use his extensive administrative expertise to address Bihar’s key development challenges in infrastructure, transportation, and mining.
