In a significant move to boost the income of farmers, the Yogi Adityanath government is providing 10 hours of free electricity for agricultural work through 2,735 dedicated feeders, with plans to expand this to over 5,000 feeders soon. Currently, 14.21 lakh farmers with tubewells are benefiting from this initiative.
During a cabinet meeting in March, Yogi Adityanath approved a proposal for free electricity for irrigation and agricultural work via tube wells. The state government has allocated Rs 1,100 crore in the budget to support this initiative, ensuring free irrigation for farmers from April onwards.
Uttar Pradesh boasts a total of 23,226 electricity feeders, with a proposal to separate over 5,433 feeders for agricultural purposes. Out of these, 2,735 feeders have already been designated to provide farmers with 10 hours of free electricity for irrigation and other farming activities. The remaining 20,491 feeders continue to supply electricity round the clock without separation.

Even during the extreme heat, the Yogi government has ensured a 24-hour electricity supply in both rural and urban areas of UP, covering all 75 districts. This initiative ensures that citizens have consistent access to necessary facilities while providing farmers with dedicated electricity for their agricultural needs.

Ashish Kumar Goel, Chairman of Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited, emphasised that the government is committed to providing 24-hour electricity supply across the state. The scheme initiated by CM Yogi for the welfare of farmers is a priority, and continuous monitoring ensures that farmers receive 10 hours of free electricity for irrigation and other agricultural activities. The target for agricultural feeders will be achieved within the stipulated time frame.
