Nayab Singh Saini

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar tendered his resignation on Tuesday amidst growing tensions within the ruling coalition comprising the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. According to a spokesperson for the Haryana government, CM Khattar submitted his resignation letter along with his cabinet to the Haryana governor.

Shortly after the resignation of Manohar Lal Khattar and other BJP ministers in anticipation of a Cabinet reshuffle, Nayab Singh Saini, BJP state president and MP from Kurukshetra is set to assume the role of Haryana Chief Minister. The oath-taking ceremony is scheduled for 5 pm today, according to media reports.

The forthcoming Cabinet overhaul is expected to exclude any representation from the JJP, sources reveal. The BJP-JJP coalition has faced strains over seat-sharing discussions for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The BJP has resisted the JJP’s request for 2 out of 10 constituencies in Haryana, contributing to the tension.

Dushyant Chautala, leader of the JJP and Deputy CM, held discussions with BJP president J P Nadda in New Delhi. Reportedly, Chautala was informed that the BJP would not allot any Lok Sabha seats to the JJP. Currently, the BJP holds 41 seats out of 90 in the Haryana Assembly, while the JJP has 10. The Congress commands 30 seats, with 7 Independent MLAs, and one representative each from the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and the Haryana Lokhit Party.
