Pod taxi

India will soon witness its first first pod taxis running between Noida’s Upcoming Jewar Airport and the filmcity as the revised DPR and bid document for India’s first Pod Taxi project has been approved by the Yamuna Authority in Uttar Pradesh’s Noida. The DPR was prepared by the Indian Port Rail and Ropeway Corporation Limited, a central government company.

The PPP project of the government was studied by a valuation committee before being passed, which recommended conducting a study in countries where pod taxis are already operational. Construction is expected to commence after receiving the final approval from the Uttar Pradesh government, with the project slated to be completed by the end of 2024.

The project is estimated to cost ₹810 crore and will connect Noida’s Jewar airport to Film City, allowing approximately 37,000 passengers to commute daily via Pod Taxis.

The pod taxi plying between Film City-Jewar Airport will also connect the industrial sector. It will have 12 stations–Sector 29, Handicraft Park, MSME Park, Apparel Park, Sector 32, Sector 33, Toy Park, Sector 21, etc.

On Wednesday the Indian Port Rail and Ropeway Corporation Limited handed over the operation report of pod taxis of three countries to the Yamuna Authority.

The project officials stated that pod taxis have been implemented in 18 countries globally, but are currently only operational in five of them. Referring to a report from 2011-12, they mentioned that London’s pod taxi project is generating profits, while Abu Dhabi’s initiative is experiencing financial losses.
