Magenta Mobility, an integrated provider of electric mobility and charging solutions, recently announced a partnership with Amazon India to set up a fleet of electric vehicles and charging stations in Hyderabad.
In accordance with the agreement, Magenta Mobility will provide electric three and four-wheelers to its delivery partners in Hyderabad for Amazon India. Additionally, it will set up an EV charging infrastructure.
By 2025, Amazon wants to add 10,000 EVs to its fleet of delivery vehicles in India. As part of its overall efforts toward The Climate Pledge, a commitment to reach net-zero emissions by 2040, 10 years ahead of the Paris Agreement.
To make this happen, Amazon India and Magenta Mobility have teamed up to install an electric fleet & charging in Hyderabad.
On this partnership, Maxson Lewis, Founder and Managing Director of Magenta Mobility, said, “This launch in Hyderabad is a continuation of our collaboration with Amazon that started in Bengaluru and will help transform a significant number of Amazon’s last-mile delivery fleet to EVs and encourage the e-commerce industry to decarbonise last-mile logistics.”
Amazon India’s Director for Customer Fulfillment, Supply Chain, and Global Specialty Fulfillment, Abhinav Singh, stated that the company is committed to creating a supply chain that will reduce the environmental impact of its operations and help it reach its goal of adding 10,000 EVs to the fleet by 2025.
“At Amazon India, we are determined to build a supply chain that will minimize the environmental impact of our operations and add to our goal of inducting 10,000 EVs to our fleet by 2025. Our collaboration with Magenta Mobility will help us serve customers in a more environmentally-friendly way. This collaboration is an important step towards building an enabling ecosystem to drive electric transportation and further driving more sustainable operations in Hyderabad, an important locale for us,” he added.
In order to meet a 2025 goal for cleaner air, the Maharashtra government will provide additional incentives to corporations like Amazon and Uber to electrify their delivery vehicles, according to the state’s environment minister.
Maharashtra, one of the wealthiest states in India and the location of the financial centre of Mumbai, is a significant market for e-commerce, ride-hailing, and food delivery businesses. It established a goal for these businesses last year to electrify 25% of their fleet by 2025.
Magenta Mobility is collaborating with businesses in the food, e-commerce, and pharmaceutical industries to decarbonise their transportation systems. Over 1Mn clean (electric) kilometres have now been travelled by the electric cargo fleet, offsetting about 150 metric tonnes of CO2.
Additionally, the company will make it possible for businesses to fulfil their goals for sustainable mobility with its own Electric Fleet Management System.
