The 17-year-long wait will soon come to an end for the residents of Greater Noida as the Ganga Jal Project, on the instructions of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is going to be completed soon. On its completion, more than eight lakh people of Greater Noida will get clean drinking water.
Work on the Rs 800-crore project was expedited following CM Adityanath’s instructions to complete it at the earliest. Continuous monitoring of the project was done from the government level and at the local level. If any problem emerged, the officers resolved the problems through dialogue with the farmers.
At present, the commissioning work is going on at the water treatment plant in Palla village. Gangajal will soon reach the treatment plant at Jaitpur and then the supply of water to the residents of Greater Noida will commence.
The authority is expected to complete the commissioning work for the supply of Gangajal in the next three months. Kapil Singh, Senior Manager, Drinking Water Department, Greater Noida Authority said, “As soon as the project is completed, Gangajal will be made available to the people in two phases. In the first phase, it will be made available in Greater Noida East after three months and in the second phase, the people of Greater Noida West will get the supply.”
CEO Greater Noida Authority and Meerut Divisional Commissioner Surendra Singh said, “On the instructions of CM Yogi, every effort is being made to bring Gangajal to the homes of the residents of Greater Noida at the earliest. The project, which seeks to supply 85 cusecs of Ganga water to Greater Noida, is very important for all its residents. On the one hand, they will get Gangajal and on the other, groundwater will be saved.”
Additional 210 MLD capacity to be provided
At present, the population of Greater Noida is about six lakh. As the project gets completed, drinking water will be provided to over three lakh people each in the first and second phases. In the coming time, even as the population increases, the area will continue getting drinking water facilities.
The current requirement of Greater Noida is about 130 MLD against which, about 170 to 180 MLD of drinking water is available in the city. After the commissioning of the Ganga Jal Project, an additional 210 MLD capacity will be provided to the area.
