Rebecca Suchiang becomes first Khasi woman to be Chief Secretary of Meghalaya

Following the government orders, senior IAS officer of Assam-Meghalaya cadre Rebecca Vanessa Suchiang assumes the charge of Chief Secretary of Meghalaya on September 30. With the posting, Suchiang jas become the first woman of Khasi origin to be appointed at the highest administrative post in a state.

The Government of Meghalaya issued orders to appoint Suchiang, a 1989-Batch IAS officer, as the new Chief Secretary of Meghalaya on September 29, as per government notification. As she takes over the post, Suchiang replaces the outgoing Chief Secretary MS Rao. Rao superannuated on September 30, 2021.

Post-retirement, the state government has assigned the charge of Chief Commissioner of the State Public Service Delivery Commission to MS Rao.

Apart from holding the charge of Chief Secretary, Suchiang will also be the State Vigilance Commissioner in accordance with the Meghalaya Right to Public Service Act, 2020, read the official notification.
