Centre deputes 12 IAS officers to West Bengal to bridge the shortage

The Centre deputed as many as 12 IAS officer additionally in West Bengal citing to bridge the gap of acute shortage of top administrators in the state.

As per the notification released by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India, the newly deputed officers include mostly 2020-batch officers with three from the home state cadre that is West Bengal. Ashis Kumar, Neha Banerjee and Raunak Agarwal are the three IAS officers of 2020-Batch from the West Bengal cadre.

The Government of West Bengal has repeatedly demanded the Centre for increasing their quota owing to the dearth of IAS officers in the state. As per the data from the state government, there are around 290 IAS officers in the state as of January 11, 2021. With the addition of the 12 new officers, the number would go up to 302.
