PM Modi lays foundation stone of Water Supply Project in Manipur

Using video conferencing tool, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the water supply project in Manipur on July 23.  As the country is fighting relentlessly against the Coronavirus pandemic, Eastern and North Eastern India had dual challenges of heavy rains and floods also which claimed many lives and left many homeless, said the PM while addressing the foundation stone laying ceremony.

The Water Supply Project which is being implemented in Manipur has an estimated cost of Rs 3000 crore. PM, while addressing the ambitious project, said that the Water Supply Project would reduce the water problems of the state and would be providing a huge relief, especially to the women. Adding on, PM Modi said that besides from benefitting Greater Imphal, the project would also cater to 25 small towns and 1700 villages in the state.

Referring to the project the PM said that with this project in place, millions of people will have access to clean drinking water at their home and thousands of people will also get employment. Moreover, he mentioned about the Jal Jeevan Mission of the Ministry of Jal Shakti which was launched last year. He said the mission has a target of providing piped water to more than 15 crore houses and today about one lakh water connections are being installed every day in the country, with the participation of the people. The work is on a mission mode to provide safe drinking water to every household, the PM added.
