Haryana govt seals Delhi-Gurugram border again

In the wake of the rising number of COVID cases in Delhi, Haryana government seals the Delhi-Gurugram border again to prevent further spread of the viral infection. However, due to the closure of the border, a massive traffic jam was seen on the road connecting Delhi and Gurugram today. Police personnel were seen checking IDs of people gathered at the Delhi-Gurugram border following the State’s order.

As per officials from the state, those people who do not have e-passes or are not working in essential services will not be allowed to pass through. However, those carrying valid IDs and serving in essential services will be allowed to commute.

Anil Vij, Haryana’s home minister sought stringency in free movement of people from Delhi and said that the number of Corona cases in the state was rising due to the free movement of people from the national capital.

Earlier, on May 14, the Government of Haryana had given an undertaking before the Delhi High Court that the movement of people from the national capital to Haryana would be allowed if the people are having e-passes.

These movement passes were to be issued to all persons engaged in providing essential services, including medical professionals, within 30 minutes of the receipt of application. The passes issued by the state governments are valid for the entire duration of the lockdown and can be used for multiple visits, the state had informed the HC.

Haryana government had taken a stand before the HC as about 56 percent of the coronavirus cases in the NCR districts of Gurugram, Faridabad, Jhajjar and Sonepat had Delhi links.
