Due to the implementations of the lockdowns in the wake of COVID-19 outbreak, sale of milk slumped due to the closure of tea shops, hotels, restaurants, etc. therefore, the Government of Haryana has decided that surplus milk would be procured through dairy cooperatives so that there is no disruption in the supply of Vita milk and milk products in days to come. This year 40 percent more milk is processed as compared to March last year.

A Sreenivas, Managing Director, Haryana Dairy Development Cooperative Federation, asked people to not panic as Haryana Dairy is processing all the milk available through the cooperatives of its milk producers. The Dairy is purchasing 8 lakh litres of milk on a daily basis which is 40 percent more than the previous year. Accordingly, the Federation is taking surplus milk available in the state.

The Federation has an uninterrupted supply of milk and milk products in the state and the supply will continue for the general public despite the lockdowns. Sreenivas said that the surplus milk available in the state will also be purchased by Haryana Dairy Federation. Cleanliness, hygiene is ensured and social distancing practice is being followed during the procurement, processing/ packing and supply of milk and milk products as per the directions of the Health Department, Sreenivas added.

The workforce of Haryana Dairy is fully sensitive and all proven measures are being taken as per the guidelines issued by WHO, Central / State Governments.
