NP Prajapati, Speaker, Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly has accepted resignations of 16 rebel Congress MLA’s last night on Thursday, March 19. The move resulted in declining the effective strength of the house to 206. The Congress-led State Government now requires trust vote of 104 to stay in power.

Post the house proceedings, the Speaker told the reporters, “I have accepted the resignation of the 16 MLAs who have filed petition in the Supreme Court. Based on what they have stated there, I am accepting resignations of these 16 MLAs also.”

The happenings took place hours after the Supreme Court directed to hold a floor test in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly by Friday, March 20.
