Ajay Bhushan Pandey


The Government of India has appointed Ajay Bhushan Pandey as the new Finance Secretary. The 1984-Batch officer is at present the Revenue Secretary. Pandey will replace the current Finance Secretary Rajiv Kumar, another 1984-Batch officer of Jharkhand cadre, who has been superannuated last month.

A Maharashtra cadre officer, Pandey had earlier held posts like Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and Chairman, GST Network. He has worked with UIDAI for nine years.

 As the Revenue secretary, he is known to have implemented data analytics and introduced features like e-assessment, faceless e-appeal, Document Identification Number (DIN) system, prefilled income tax returns, quick refunds on income tax returns to name a few.


Pandey has pursued B.Tech from IIT Kanpur and MS and PhD in Computer Science from University of Minnesota.
