MMRC MD Ashwini Bhide transferred amidst major bureaucratic rejig in Maharashtra

Ashwani Bhide, Managing Director (MD) of Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has been transferred from her post as per a government order released on Tuesday. A 1995-Batch IAS officer, Bhide is credited for implementation of Metro-3 project. However, she also received brickbats for the decision to fail over 2,000 trees in the Aarey Milk Colony for a Metro Car shed in October last year.

Bhide will be replaced by Ranjit Singh Deol, a 1998-Batch officer. Deol is currently serving as the Vice Chairman (VC) and MD of Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC). According to reports, Bhide’s posting is awaited in a couple of days.

As many as 20 senior IAS officers were transferred on Tuesday. Tukaram Mundhe, 2005-Batch officer has been appointed as the head of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). Mundhe was earlier posted as Solapur collector, Nashik and Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner.

Other officers, who have been transferred, include Mumbai City Collector Shivaji Jondhale. The 2004-Batch officer has posted in the general administration department (GAD) in Mantralaya.

Jondhale will be replaced by Rajeev Nivatkar (2010-Batch), who is at present the Joint Secretary in Chief Secretary’s office.

Prajakta Lavangare-Verma, 2001-Batch officer, has been appointed as head of the Marathi language department.

Kantilal Umap (2005-Batch) has been appointed as Excise Commissioner, replacing Verma.

Saurabh Rao, 2003-Batch officer and Pune Munnicipal Commissioner, has been transferred as Sugar Commissioner.

He will take over this post from Shekhar Gaikwad, 2002-Batch officer, who has been now posted as Pune Municipal Corporation Chief.
