Pramod Kumar Mishra, 1972-Batch officer, has been appointed the new Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Mishra was Modi’s top aide during his 12 and a half year stint as the Chief Minister of Gujarat.
Mishra will be replacing Nripendra Misra, the PM’s long-serving aide who resigned recently after a five-year term as the top bureaucrat in the central government.
A Gujarat cadre, Mishra had previously served as the Additional Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister and was holding the rank of a Cabinet Minister. He has also held posts like Secretary Agriculture & Cooperation and Chairman, State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
An alumnus of Delhi School of Economics, Mishra also holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Sussex, England, and was conferred a prestigious United Nations award for disaster management and disaster risk reduction in May 2019.
In another appointment in the PMO, former cabinet secretary P K Sinha has been appointed Principal Advisor to the PM.
Sinha was previously appointed as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the PMO.
