Dr Sanjay Chahande, 1988-Batch officer of Maharashtra cadre has been appointed as the Principal Secretary, Water Supply and Sanitation, Maharashtra.
Prior to this post, Dr Chahande has served as the Deputy Director-General of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).
In his career spanning more than 24 years of civil service, Dr Chahande has held portfolios such as Textile Commissioner, Ministry of Textiles; Collector Mumbai and Mumbai Suburban District, Director General, Information and Public Relations, Divisional Commissioner, Nasik Division; Additional Municipal Commissioner of BMC, Government of Maharashtra; Principal Secretary, Higher & Technical Education, Mumbai and Secretary to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
Dr Chahande has also headed two World Bank Projects, one each in education and health sector. He has also the Director of Social Welfare and the Secretary of the Department of Women and Child Welfare, Government of Maharashtra. He was also acting as a Vice Chancellor of the University of Pune in the year 2011-12 and the Director General of Yashwantrao Chavan Academy of Development Administration (YASHADA).
Dr Chahande is a medical graduate with an MBBS degree and holds two Masters Degrees. He is M.Sc. degree from the London School of Economics (LSE) and Political Sciences, LSE, London, with major in Sociology of Religion and Human Rights.
He further holds Masters in Public Administration, MPA, from the prestigious Maxwell School, Syracuse University, New York, U.S.A. He was the first Anne Bohm Scholar of LSE, in the year 2001.
