Towards Industry 4.0: The Road Forward


To explore the innovations and technological deployment in the manufacturing domain and industry 4.0, Elets Technomedia conducted the first National Manufacturing Innovation Summit. Through an array of keynote addresses and panel discussions, the Summit touched various aspects of the themes.

The special guest of the Summit, HE Desire KOUMBA, Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary, Embassy of Gabon in India talked about the rise of Gabon, West Africa as a business hub. He said,” Gabon is rich with natural resources. It is a peaceful country and has a lot of offer to the investors.”


S Suresh Kumar, Joint Secretary and Additional CEO, Government e Marketplace (GeM), Ministry of Commerce and Industry talked on the procurement of innovations embedded in the Government e Market place. He said, “All procurement process through GeM is paperless, cashless and people less. This has created ease of business for not only manufacturing but every industry sectors. Today GeM is the largest procurement platform globally.”



Mehnaz Ansari, Country Representative, United States Trade Development Agency (USTDA) said, “USTDA is working on infrastructure planning across the country. We are looking at technological innovation in sectors like energy, manufacturing, aviation etc. and smart city.”

Bhavna Saxena, Special Commissioner of Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board shared insights about technological deployments by the State Government. “After bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, we faced challenge in developing but we started from scratch and have now reached a stable stage. Andhra Pradesh has 3,00,000 acres of land with Govt. and we plan to increase further to help investors. GSI enabled land information system. Industrial parks, SEZs are being developed. We have road, port connectivity, power grid and fibernet which are major reasons for investors to come and explore business opportunities here.”


She added, “We are the first state to use blockchain for land acquisition. We are also leveraging robotics, Data Analytics, Machine Learning etc. The first gaming university of India is being set up in the state.”

Dr Rakesh Varma, Special Secretary, Infrastructure & Industrial Development Department, GoUP & Joint Executive Director, Udyog Bandhu, Uttar Pradesh presented the industry scenario and investment opportunities in the state. He said, “Uttar Pradesh is well connected with east, west and central India. The key sectoral strengths are in IT & Electronics, Food Processing etc. We are setting up a new airport in Jewar under the UDAN scheme.”

He also talked about Nivesh Mitra, the online platform for registration for investors and industrialists which would enable them the Ease of Doing Business.


The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr Ravi Gupta, CEO and founder of Elets Technomedia, which was followed by the launch of eGov magazine Leadership special issue.


Industry leaders discuss opportunities and challenges in industrial technology deployment at Manufacturing Summit

Industry presentations were delivered by Adarsh Kaul, Marketing Lead, Avaya, India & SAARC and Dipesh Kothari, Head of Global Business Development, TCS iON which talked about the nuances of marketing and importance of digitisation in driving business transformation respectively.


The first panel discussion was held on the theme ‘CIO as Driver of Digital Disruption: The One Stop Place for Everything in Innovation’. The panelists were Laxmikanta Das General Manager, IT Business Partner, Philips Lighting India; DGM, Electronics Corporation of India Limited and Charu Bhargava, Vice President, Sheela Foams.


Nishank Goyal, CEO, Masters India delivered address on how technological innovations are deployed to bring convenience for the offering GST solutions.


The second panel discussion was held on the topic ‘Digital Disruption in Manufacturing Industry –Smart Factories, Digital Manufacturing, Lean Manufacturing, Artificial Intelligence’. The discussion was participated by industry leaders like CIO ERU, Ministry of Steel; Anil Singhai, Anil Varshney, VP, Reliance Infrastructure and Rohit Vishwkarma, Associate Head –IT, Perfetti Van Melle.


Next panel discussion was held on ‘Innovation led Manufacturing Industry Transformation: Importance of Cyber Security, Leveraging Block Chain and Growing Role of CISOs’ and moderated by RaviKiran S Avvaru, Head –IT & CISO, Toyota India. The panelists included Srinivas Thimmaiah, Program Manager –Information Security, Automotive Company and Anish Gambhir, Assistant Vice President, Arihant Electricals.


The final panel discussion of the Summit was on the theme ‘Bringing Down the Digital Barriers and Designing the Future Workplace’. Moderated by Vipul Anand, SVP—IT, Hindware, this panel received insightful inputs by Anil Bhasin, President, Havells India and Ananya Chandra, Associate VP, Invest India. They analysed the significance of deploying the modern technological innovations and why it is important to review the deployments based on consumer needs.


The Summit ended with Master Innovator Felicitation Ceremony where the corporate and technology honchos were presented with awards on various categories by the jury of Elets Technomedia.
