Maharashtra makes provision for opening of shops 24X7

In a bid to promote the ease of business, Maharashtra government has amended the Maharashtra Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Service Condition) Act, 2017 and issued a notification in this regard.
With the implementation of the act, Shops in the State can open in three shifts 24X7 seven days in a week.
Besides shops, the notification covers hotels, restaurants and malls, however, excludes bars, pubs, wine shops and discotheques.
This will no doubt give a tremendous boost to the businesses, as they can now operate whole night and whole day, and increase their revenues, while at the same time give consumers more options.
It will help shop owners and restaurants to free from license raj and the corrupt practice by civic bodies.
The amended legislation exempts small- and medium-sized establishments which have zero or fewer than ten workers or employee working from home or online business from registration for a license.
This relaxation is expected to benefit 22 lakhs establishments.
