With a vision to make Chandigarh a world leader in livability and sustainability, efforts are now going on to make it congestion free.

“There is no point of using state-of-the-art IT technology in a Smart City, if a citizen takes 2.5 hours to reach his destination. Also, there should be proper recreational spaces in a Smart City,” said Baldeo Purushartha, Commissioner, Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, while speaking at the Elets Smart City Conclave.

Chandigarh is the only city which has decided to go with the 4,000 colored temperature LED bulbs. Although a bit expensive, these bulbs will help in preserving the flora and fauna of the city and is very easy on the human eye.

City Beautiful is also working towards making the largest incubation centre in the country which will help manufacrturing units and entrepreneurs.

Chandigarh Administration is working on five goals:

1. To make it a model city for livability and creativity
2. A healthy and sustainable city
3. A city that celebrates its planned heritage
4. A centre for startups and entrepreneurship
5. A vibrant regional centre

“We don’t want to make Chandigarh a concrete jungle. We want our infrastructure to be build in a planned way with the help of IT.Infrastructure should serve the citizens in a smart way. We don’t want to compromise on planning and aesthetics and all our plans are being made that way,” he added.
