In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make In India’ initiative, low-cost mobile device maker DataWind will reportedly open two more manufacturing units in the country within next six months.
Suneet Singh Tuli, President and CEO, DataWind said, “Two more manufacturing units will be added within six months as the company has stopped importing finished products from China. To meet local requirements, we need to expand here.”
The company already has an assembly unit in Amritsar and a manufacturing facility for touch panels.
DataWind, a leading provider of low cost internet connectivity and wireless web access products, shipped the first 80,000 internet-enabled tablets and smartphones from its new production facility in Amritsar.
“After establishing India’s first and only manufacturing facility for touch panels in 2013, now by producing the majority of its products in India, DataWind has taken a major step in the direction of realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Vision of ‘Make in India’,” the company said in an official release.
