Syed Asif Ibrahim, a 1977 batch IPS officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre and former Intelligence Bureau (IB) chief, has been appointed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s special envoy on countering terrorism and extremism.
One of the officials said, “Mr. Ibrahim is one of the most well-informed officials when it comes to the Islamic world and its political structures. His role will include both the international and domestic dimensions of countering international terrorism, which is of great concern to the government.”
He will be in the rank of Secretary to the Government and will hold the post for a period of three years or until further orders. He was retired as IB Director in the month of December last year.
