The Government of Madhya Pradesh has introduced a SMS-based ‘e-gatiman’ service to end the requirement of Form-49 to get clearance at 28 commercial tax check-posts while transporting goods.

According to Jayant Mallaiya, Finance and Commercial Taxes Minister, Madhya Pradesh, “Instead of filling up Form-49 for clearances, transporters can get the ‘way bill’ in an electronic format by sending an SMS, filling up the form and sending it back to the authority concerned to generate a unique barcode under the e-gatiman service.”

Mallaiya added that e-gatiman service would eliminate the complex procedure of downloading Form-49, which is followed by submitting it at check-posts to get the gate pass. This process takes a lot of time which results in prolonged traffic jams at check-posts. He added that if date and time of arrival of goods at check-posts is as per schedule, then trucks can cross it through the green channel.
