Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) has started sending information on electricity bills to its consumers through short messaging services (SMS). The consumers will get information such as due date of the bill, reminders prior to due date and receipt of payment on their mobile phones in an SMS. DHBVN has successfully integrated this facility with its billing data base. The authority has already received mobile numbers of over two lakh consumers who have started getting information related to bills. As and when the consumers provide mobile numbers they would start getting the SMSs. The system also has facility to broadcast other useful information to the consumers. A plan is also being formulated to provide bills through e-mail also to all those consumers who get registered for the same with the DHBVN.
