UAE ID card supports Iris technology

United Arab Emirates (UAE) is planning to introduce biometric technology on its ID smart card for expatriate workers and citizens. UAE will introduce ID smart card on the pattern of Iris biometrics card.

The government has introduced the ID card to secure its borders, reduce identify theft and keep better track of the expatriates. These ID cards will serve as residence and labor cards, as well as work as Health card and e-Passport within the Gulf region and an ATM card and e-Purse card. The government also wants cardholders to eventually use the cards to authenticate themselves when they conduct e-Government services. The cards will carry two 64-kilobyte chips.
