Estonia becomes first country in EU to implement e-Voting

Estonia has become the first country to implement e-Voting system for a national parliamentary election within the European Union (EU). Around 900,000 Estonians were ready to use online polling system on February 26 to February 28, 2007.

 

According to BBC reports, around 30,000 Estonians have chosen online voting system. e-Voting system have been tried on smaller scales in the UK and Ireland for local elections. Estonia is expecting that around 20,000 to 40,000 people will vote through Internet on March 4 for traditional voting. Estonia has become one of the leaders in e-Government after separating from the Soviet Union in 1991.
