Intel develops the first Digital Hospital with WiMAX technology in rural India.

 

Intel has developed the first Digital Hospital in Baramati, Maharashtra, India. Intel has developed the first Digital Hospital with WiMAX network to equip with 100 Mobile Computer Labs. Intel and government officials have dedicated their first digital hospital with WiMAX to Baramati on November 2, 2006.

 

Intel has set up the state-of-the-art, high-speed Internet network to connect the community center, public computer systems and donated PC to the community and developed a telemedicine programme of the Baramati’s government hospital. According to Intel’s chairman, Craig Barrett, Intel has supported government in its World Ahead Program to bring technology in rural areas. The standard use of the technology will help hospital to increase the quality of care with low cost. The real time video capabilities and electronic medical records with help patients to be diagnosed by medical specialist, if they hundred kilometers away also.  Intel and Airce installed the wireless WiMAX technology to enable the wireless communications infrastructure at the computer center and public kiosks. Intel has also donated PCs  to the community center and public kiosks and these ‘Community PCs’ have dust filters, auto restore and can connect to car batteries for electricity. Intel has also announced that, the company will provide 100 mobile computer labs across the country to help the government in its World Ahead Program.
