Using Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for Effective Disaster Management Caribbean Forum 2006 will be organised by the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation and the International Telecommunication Union on September 26 to 28 in Jamaica.

This event is being supported by the Caribbean Association of National Telecommunication Organisations (CANTO), and hosted by the Jamaican Office of Utilities Regulation. The objective of this event is to provide the organisers with an opportunity to work with countries in the region to put in place the necessary platform for disaster prevention, preparedness and relief. This forum will gather senior government and telecommunication regulatory officials, private sector organisations, and civil society who will assess the impact of recent disasters, look at the frequency and magnitude of these disasters, discuss the role of Information and Communication Technologies in disaster risk reduction, and vitally look at the role of stakeholders such as governments, regulatory authorities, humanitarian organisations in the UN, non-government actors, and telecommunication providers. It will also look at telecommunication network reconstruction and rehabilitation. This will be the second in a series of four free to attend regional events to be held around the Commonwealth.
