The Fiji Chamber of Commerce and Industry has called on the Government to encourage growth of the information communication technology sector.

In its budget submission to the Finance Ministry, it said ICT was the most neglected sector in the Strategic Development Plan, yet it held the key to unlocking and unleashing the potential of all the nine sectors in the plan. Chamber president Taito Waradi said an entirely new incentive package is required immediately for the ICT sector. He said the Indian growth had been attributed to its reform program, which began 15 years ago, focussing on the growth of its IT capability in particular. The result, he said, was that today India had two thirds of IT offshore services.
