Government of South Korea to protect e-Documents

The Government of South Korea approved a bill to step up measures against online forgeries of official documents, including stiff punishment for counterfeiting and enhanced forgery prevention systems.

Forgeries have been a stumbling block to the government's push for a full-fledged electronic administration system. A sub-committee to prevent hacking of Internet civilian documents will be established under the Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs. Civil registration documents can be applied for and issued online from the government Internet registry offices. Documents include transcripts for resident, census, land, property and military registrations.
