The Sarawak government is to play an active role  on a mission to develop the eastern corridor comprising Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Sabah and Sarawak into a modern commercial agricultural and agro-based region.

Detailing Ninth Malaysia Plan (9MP), Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Alfred Jabu said the proposal on the eastern corridor was very pragmatic and the involvement of the private sector as the engine of economic growth was very much welcome to ensure successful realisation of Vision 2020 aiming to enhance the people’s capability. Youth and human development were the prime thrust areas of the proposal. The plan wants the youth to be skilled in all fields especially ICT and biotechnology as it is a step that can be level the gap between the urban and rural folk.
