Electronic residential registration cards with integrated circuit chips will make their debut in 2008 in Korea. The microchip will contain personal certification for online banking purposes, ID number, health insurance and information on any disabilities. It will also be recognized when electronic voting goes on trial the same year.

 

The Home Affairs Ministry said Thursday the existing card will be replaced for stronger privacy protection and prevention of counterfeiting. The new card will also function as an online ID. The card will display holders
