The first anniversary of the launch of Smart City mission is all set to be hosted in Pune that had emerged second in the first round of the smart city contest. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will join the event to be organized by Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on June 25.
PMC has been chosen as the host of the anniversary after the Union Urban Development Department evaluated the progress in the smart city projects among the top 20 cities selected in the first round of smart city mission on June 25 last year. Overall, 98 cities were considered for competing under the smart city challenge and Bhubaneswar had emerged first while Pune stood second in the first list for smart cities, also known as light house cities.
The Union Urban Development Ministry has also said that work towards few projects that can be completed fast will begin on the anniversary day of smart city mission launching. PMC has been directed to make arrangements for PM Modi’s visit on the occasion.
The Ministry has also specified that the anniversary event will also launch Make Your City Smart contest, inauguration of smart net portal, release of coffee table book and inauguration of Quick Win projects in Pune.
