India is on the way to initiate electronic travel documents like biometric passports, e-Visas and other immigration processes are all being revamped. It is another project aimed at reducing personal interface and corruption. The way we travel will never be the same again
The Department of Immigration and Emigration of Sri Lanka is planning to introduce biometric passport system within the year to increase travel document security and personal identity protections.
At New Delhi,India,on October 13th 2008,Tata Consultancy Services announced that it has a signed a deal with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India, for the Passport Automation Project – the largest mission-critical E-governance project valued at over Rs.10,000 million.
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has won the first ever contract for processing Indian passport applications. This is a big move in terms of outsourcing government work.
The Government of India plans to issue e-passports to diplomats from next month and to the citizens from the September 2010 onwards.
Soon, every citizen in Brunei will be able to get e-Passport or biometric passport. The Department of National Registration and Immigration has officially launched e-Passport project in 2008.
