Omar Abdullah’s new government in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) has promised within the arena of e-Governance to provide for a legislation to strengthen the Right to Information (RTI) Act in the state. A call centre towards the same is being planned.

Brookings Institution of Governance Studies has ranked South Korea at the 1st position out of 198 countries. Other highly ranked countries in the study are Taiwan, United States, Singapore, Canada, Australia, Germany and Ireland. Singapore, which was placed 4th, is the top ranking country among Asean nations.
e-Procurement For Railways
The e-procurement system of the railways was inaugurated recently. The e-procurement platform to East Coast Railway (ECoR) has been provided by Centre for Railway Information System (CRIS). The east coast railway stores department purchases around INR 750 crore materials every year.
e-Auction of Tea Failed to Take-off in Kolkata
Kolkata’s project on e-auction of tea has failed to take-off due technical glitches, lack of space and difficulty in allowing proxy bidders. The e-auction of tea in Kolkata which was to start from January 27, 2009, was carried out but only manually on January 27 and 28, 2009.
MP’s e-Governance Initiative bags National Award
Madhya Pradesh (MP) Forest Department has bagged the National e- Governance silver medal for its Fire Alert and Message System (FAMS). The award will be given away at the 12th National Conference on e- Governance in Goa on February 12, 2009, by the Information and Technology Department of Government of India.
m-Governance Adopted by Traffic Police in Kerala
Under the pilot project launched by Kerala Government, 38 traffic rule offenders landed in police net after the city police have started using the Blackberry mobile phones. Three complimentary Blackberry handsets had been handed over to the police personnel recently.
Computers @ INR 500 to be made Available by Govt.
Government of India is all set to make available low-cost computers at the rate of INR 500 within six months. Technology for these computers have been developed by IISC, Bangalore and IIT Madras.
