In a major step toward enhancing construction standards throughout India, the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL), which operates under the Quality Council of India (QCI), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India (CREDAI). The agreement was officially signed on November 25, 2024, during the Silver Jubilee celebrations of CREDAI in New Delhi, with Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Piyush Goyal, in attendance.
The primary objective of this collaboration is to improve the quality and reliability of temporary site testing laboratories used in civil engineering projects. These laboratories are essential for on-site testing of materials such as aggregates and concrete cubes, especially in large-scale construction projects exceeding 50,000 square feet. The partnership seeks to implement NABL’s recognition scheme to ensure the accuracy and reliability of material testing, thereby fostering confidence in the quality of materials and contributing to the construction of safer and more durable structures.
The MoU was signed by Mr N. Venkateswaran, CEO of NABL, and Mr Shekar G. Patel, President-Elect of CREDAI, with distinguished individuals including Mr Jaxay Shah, Chairman of QCI, and Mr Manoj Gaur, Chairman of CREDAI, also present at the event.

In his address, Mr. Jaxay Shah emphasized the importance of quality assurance in civil engineering projects, stating, “This MoU represents a critical step in improving the reliability of construction materials across India. The collaboration between NABL-QCI and CREDAI will ensure that temporary site testing laboratories maintain the highest standards, thereby enhancing the overall quality of construction projects nationwide.”

Mr N. Venkateswaran, CEO of NABL, reiterated the significance of the MoU, emphasizing that it marks a pivotal milestone in reinforcing the integrity of the construction industry. “By promoting NABL’s recognition scheme for temporary site testing laboratories, this partnership will help ensure the precision of test results, thereby enhancing the reliability of materials used in construction projects.”
