NLC India Ltd. (NLCIL) has entered into two significant joint ventures with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RRVUNL), marking a substantial advancement in India’s renewable and thermal power sectors. This strategic collaboration aligns closely with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for national energy security, which is driven by sustainable and reliable energy sources. The initiative is supported by Union Minister of Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, and Minister of State for Coal and Mines, Satish Chandra Dubey, emphasising the government’s commitment to consolidating India’s energy infrastructure and meeting future energy demands through diverse power sources.

The first of these ventures will be a collaboration between NLC India Renewables Limited (NIRL), a subsidiary of NLCIL dedicated to renewable energy, and RRVUNL. This partnership seeks to establish multiple renewable energy projects across Rajasthan, leveraging the state’s rich potential for solar and wind energy. By promoting clean and renewable energy sources, the joint venture aims to contribute to India’s climate goals while enhancing energy access and security for the region.

The second joint venture will focus on establishing a lignite-based thermal power station, a move designed to address Rajasthan’s growing energy needs while ensuring a balanced energy mix. Lignite, an abundant resource in India, offers a stable energy source, enabling sustained power generation and supporting grid reliability as renewable projects continue to expand.

Both joint ventures signify a robust public-private partnership where NLCIL will hold a 74% equity stake, with RRVUNL retaining the remaining 26%. This equity distribution underscores NLCIL’s leadership and commitment to driving energy innovations, while RRVUNL’s participation reflects the state’s vested interest in strengthening regional energy resources.

The joint venture agreements were formally signed by Dr. Prasanna Kumar Acharya, Director (Finance) of NLCIL, and Devendra Shringi, CMD of RRVUNL. The signing ceremony was attended by Alok, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary (Energy), Government of Rajasthan, and Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, CMD of NLCIL, adding weight to this landmark agreement.
