Centre Appoints Tarun Kapoor as Advisor to PM, HR Rao & Atish Chandra Named Additional Secretaries, PMO

The Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) has recently issued orders to appoint Tarun Kapoor as Advisor to the Prime Minister. The former Petroleum Secretary, Kapoor is a 1987-Batch IAS officer of the Himachal Pradesh cadre. On November 30, 2021, he superannuated as the Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.


As per the official order, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has noded to Kapoor’s appointment as Advisor to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). He has been assigned the rank and scale of Secretary to the Government of India for a period of two years from the date of joining,

Alongside Kapoor’s appointment, senior bureaucrats including Hari Ranjan Rao and Atish Chandra have been given the post of Additional Secretary in the PMO. Rao is a 1994-Batch lAS officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre. He is presently serving as Administrator, Universal Services Obligation Fund in the Department of Telecommunications. While Atish Chandra is presently holding the charge of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), Food Corporation of India, Department of Food and Public Distribution.
