An Indian Information Service (IIS) officer of 1984 batch Akshay Kumar Rout has been appointed the Officer on Special Duty (OSD), Swachha Bharat Mission, in the Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation.
The officer will most likely be assigned the task to promote the Mission in audio-visual and on digital media platforms.
Prior to this appointment, Rout held the additional charge of DG (News), Doordarshan. Notably, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) had earlier declined Minister of State (MoS) Information & Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore’s proposal to appoint Rout as Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) chief. Earlier till 2014, Rout also served with the Election Commission of India as DG, Information Education & Communications.
