Senior IPS officer Surender Singh has been appointed as the new chief of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). He is a 1980-batch police officer of the West Bengal cadre, and is serving as a Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau (IB) currently. He will be taking over the new charge as incumbent Director-General Arvind Ranjan has retired.
Earlier, in this regard, an order was also issued by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Singh’s tenure is up to August next year as the head of the 1.41-lakh personnel strong force, that is meant to secure some of the most vital and strategic installations in the country such as civil airports and facilities in the nuclear and aerospace domain.
The outgoing DG, Arvind Ranjan was also accorded a farewell by senior officials of the Central Industrial Security Force.
Ranjan, who is a 1977-batch IPS officer of Kerala cadre, had been the head of the force for about 16 months during which he initiated a slew of best practices in the force, especially, with regard to enhancing the security consultancy wing of the force.
