Coming soon: 7% ‘Green Tax’ on old vehicles in UP

All motor vehicles more than 15-years-old will have to pay a “Green Tax” in Uttar Pradesh soon.


Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has given a green signal to the amendment in the UP Motor Vehicles Act. It has been decided that all such vehicles, which have completed 15 years from their date of manufacturing, will have to register again and the Green Tax would be levied on them at that time.

The move has been necessitated to conserve the environment and has been initiated at the behest of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said a Government official. The modalities of the tax would be announced soon and officials added that such a tax would be around seven percent in addition to the registration tax.
